So what have I learnt from Cancer?
I’ve learnt about the importance of living the moment, but not at the expense of perusing the things that really matter. I’ve learnt to celebrate the power of God, faith and prayer, and to never underestimate the love, support and healing that can come from family, friends and community.
But most of all, I have learnt to appreciate and value the hope and optimism that has come to define me, and transform my life.
As many of you know all too well, my struggles are not unique, they are in fact no more than a reflection of the challenges we all face in our own way and in our own time.
This is why, today, as I celebrate my life, I choose to extend my prayers beyond my family and myself.
I pray that as we move through the trials and tribulations of this season that each of us will find our own reasons to meet the challenge of the High Holy Days.
I pray that each of us will find a way to choose life and blessing this year. For if we are able to do this, if we are able to focus on wonder of our lives and blessings that that we share, then I promise that no matter what the New Year brings, we will be okay!
