Response to Human Rights Legislation Amendment
The UPJ provided a response to the request from the Executive Council of Australian Jewry's second exposure draft of the Human Rights Legislation Amendment (Freedom of Religion) Bill 2019. The essence is that we are unconvinced of the benefits of the proposed legislation and see a number of its aspects as antithetical to Jewish values. Above all, our Jewish values which we are free to exercise today ought not be restricted in operation by legislation that is motivated by preserving freedoms. With great sadness, we share the news that Rabbi Brian Fox AM z”l passed away on 8 January 2020. UPJ urges community to 'dig deep' for bushfire support
UPJ Co-Presidents David Knoll and Brian Samuel have urged the UPJ community to "dig deep" to provide support to those who have been devastated by the bushfires, especially those who have lost family members, and they expressed deepest gratitude to the fire fighters who have put their own lives at risk to save lives and property.
