This year, congregations around the world, including several from the UPJ, are participating in the 6th Annual Reverse Tashlich on Sunday 10 September. The program is sponsored and was created by Repair the Sea | Tikkun HaYam. Reverse Tashlich transforms the symbolism of Tashlich to address the contemporary environmental issue of plastic and marine debris pollution. Instead of symbolically casting our "sins" into the water, participants come together to remove these harmful pollutants from the water, fostering a sense of responsibility and stewardship for the environment. The World Union for Progressive Judaism has invited UPJ member congregations, organisations and educational institutions to submit applications for grants from the WUPJ to assist with leadership development programs. Successful applications must have an international component that could include the physical or virtual facilitation by WUPJ leadership and staff. Deadline for applying is 31 July 2023. Mazon prepared and distributed 150 soup bags, filled with fresh veggies and a recipe, to clients of Project Dignity, The Salvation Army Australia Asylum Seekers Support Service, Pathways Melbourne and NCJWA (Vic), assisted with packing by b'nei mitzvah students at Kehilat Nitzan. Mazon plans to pack and deliver 500 more bags throughout the winter months.
