The Assembly of Rabbis and Cantors (ARC) of Australia, New Zealand and Asia will present two Elul Reflections each week in the UPJ's Weekly News & Drash, beginning the week of 9 August. Note: the reflections will not be emailed to subscribers as in the past. The two weekly reflections will also be posted on this page (see below) so visitors can read them at their convenience. It is our hope that these reflections will encourage meaningful preparation for the High Holy Days.
In addition, ARC is pleased to present two other Elul opportunities:
Gesher Educational Services and the UPJ, an Elul series titled "Inspiring Stories, Exceptional Times" with host Rabbi Gary Robuck, introducing seven leading rabbis and Jewish communal leaders in Australia and abroad doing extraordinary things. Join in conversation with them via Zoom as they share their uplifting and unconventional stories, their reflections on living in a time of pandemic, and hopes for the year ahead. There is no cost; register to read the session descriptions and receive the Zoom link at www.gesher.com.au.
Temple Beth Israel in Melbourne is hosting an Elul book club, to read michal Oshman's book "What Would You Do If You Weren't Afraid?" to help prepare for the Yamim Noraim. The book club will meet online (and in person if Covid-safe allows). The four sessions will be held on Thursday 12 August, 19 August, 26 August at 8.00-9.30pm, and the final session will be prior to TBI's S'lichot service on Saturday 28 August, 8.00-9.30pm. The book can be purchased at all major bookstores; there is also an audio version and an e-book available. CLICK HERE to register for the book club.
We wish you a meaningful, reflective Elul, and hope that your spirit and soul are nourished heading into the High Holy Days. Click on the sound file below to listen to Rabbi Gersh Lazarow sounding the shofar:
