Twenty-five teens gathered from five cities for the most recent Asian Progressive Judaism (APJ) Teen Leadership weekend, held in Singapore from 11-13th May. Communities in Hong Kong, Tokyo, Bali and Jakarta were all represented by their young people, accompanied by their rabbis and lay leadership.
The group were treated to a tour of Jewish Singapore, study sessions led by Rabbis David Kunin (JCJ Tokyo), Martha Bergadine (UJC Hong Kong) and Nathan Alfred (UHC Singapore), as well as attending Shabbat services including a Bar Mitzvah. They also let off steam with a Saturday night Havdalah at the Night Safari, did some Tikkun Olam cleaning up a local beach, and enjoyed a Scavenger Hunt and Night Safari.
The weekend was hosted by the United Hebrew Congregation (Singapore) with the support of the JDC. This is the sixth in a series of APJ teen weekends and in 2018-19 future regional events are planned in Hong Kong and Bali.
