Brisbane Progressive Jewish Congregation celebrated the gift of a Torah from Temple Shalom in Dallas, Texas on 13 March, with four Temple Shalom representatives attending the special celebration. With joyous music and dancing, families and friends from the BPJC community and the wider community joined in the festivities.
In October 2015, UPJ Treasurer and BPJC member Sally Castle, Cantor David Bentley and UPJ Executive Officer Jocelyn Robuck attended the URJ gala dinner that featured the special presentation of the Torah from Temple Shalom to Beit Or - BPJC.
Representatives from Temple Shalom brought the Torah on the aeroplane (pictured: Jacque Comroe and Cantor Don Alan Croll), contained in a large, specially designed box.
In a moving ceremony, 500 attendees formed a circle around the perimeter of the room, as the Torah was passed from the Dallas representatives and finally to Cantor David Bentley and Sally Castle, representing BPJC.
